Lizeka Tandwa completed her MSc (Med) Bioethics and Health Law and Biomedical Sciences (Hons) at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is a lecturer and the Programme Head of the BHSc (Hons) in Bioethics and Health Law programme at the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics. She is a researcher at the Academy of Science of South Africa. Her current research interests are biosecurity, dual-use of research and public health ethics.

Professor of Family Medicine

Physician, educator, scholar and human rights advocate, Laurel Baldwin-Ragaven is Professor of Family Medicine at the University of the Witwatersrand. She is also the clinical head of Family Medicine for the four Southern Gauteng health districts, a combined service-training platform providing comprehensive primary health care to a population of over nine million people. She is a Fellow of the Canadian College of Family Physicians and the South African College of Family Physicians. She holds a bachelor¡¯s degree in the social sciences from Smith College, USA and completed her medical training at McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Associate Professor and Director of the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics

Associate Professor Kevin Behrens (BA, Hon BTh, MA, D Litt et Phil) is the Director of the Steve Biko Centre for Bioethics, Wits University. His research interests lie in the areas of Bioethics and Environmental Ethics.  A major emphasis in his work is on applying African moral philosophical notions to ethical questions.  He has published widely in international and national journals and holds an NRF rating as an Established Researcher (C1). He serves on the Research Ethics Committee of the CSIR and is a consultant on the ÍøÒ×ÌåÓý Clinical Ethics Committee of the Lenmed Hospital group.
