The Wits University Mountain Club is dedicated to all forms of rock climbing, mountaineering and a love of the outdoors. Climbing can be a relaxed sociable escape from big city living as well as an athletic pursuit for those who wish to push themselves physically and mentally.
Our 8m wall in the Wits Multi-Purpose Sports Hall is a great venue for bouldering and sport climbing, allowing us to host trainings and events throughout the year including the National Boulder League.
The club hosts trips to Waterval Boven every year as well as trips to Harrismith, Swinburne, Magaliesberg or the Drakensberg. Day trips to Bronkhorstspruit, Chosspile, Kingskloof, Strubens Valley and other climbing areas closer to Wits are also frequented, ensuring that Wits climbers have many opportunities to hone their skills. We are always looking for new members to join and have dedicated beginner-training evenings where we teach basic techniques and all the necessary procedures to be safe while climbing.
