Professor paddling for climate change

Accountancy Professor Kurt Sartorius plans to paddle 1100 kilometres down a tributary of the Amazon River to highlight climate change.
Speaking to IOL Business Report Online, Sartorius said that South Africa’s accountancy profession could help initiate long term global corporate climate change projects.
This year Sartorius and his son Benn will initiate a long-term climate change project by paddling down the Rio Madeira, a southern tributary of the Amazon River, to highlight the changes in the 50 years since he first paddled down this river in July 1972.

Professor Sartorius was also interviewed on Radio Islam, where he spoke of the links between the accountancy profession, corporate social responsibility, corporate risk and climate change.
Now aged 73, the Professor has no illusions about the adventure. He describes the journey 50 years ago as "horrific" due to the mosquitoes. Wits Accountancy Professor, Wayne van Zjil, will also be joining the trip.
