WBS Head to lead new initiative

Wits Business School Head Dr Sibusiso Sibisito to lead new Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Finance Initiative
The Head of Wits Business School (WBS) Dr Sibusiso Sibisi will be stepping down from his position at the end of the year to support a new strategic initiative within the University.
The University is currently in discussions with the private sector about setting up a new Artificial Intelligence, Technology and Finance initiative, a priority for the University and an area of great interest to Dr Sibisi.
Prior to joining the WBS, Dr Sibisi’s academic and professional pursuits were in the world of science, technology and associated innovation. His focus was in mathematical modelling and computational science. Much of that work has recently been finding popular mention through areas like data science and machine learning. It is with this in mind that Dr Sibisi and the management of Wits have agreed that Dr. Sibisi is best placed to assist the university in its strategic goals in this area.
Professor Jannie Rossouw has agreed to serve as the acting Head of the Wits Business School from January 2020 while the search process for a new Head is underway.
In the meantime, we will continue to build on the successes of the past few years, including through building our mainstream programmes and growing our new programmes such as Digital Business and Energy Leadership. These cutting-edge academic developments have come about through the hard work and dedication of all the staff in the WBS and we are confident that the School will continue to provide world-class academic programmes to our students.
Wits Vice-Chancellor Professor Adam Habib said “The expansion of the technological era requires businesses to transform their skills, operations and organisation. Wits is increasingly working with South Africa’s enterprises to assist them in this regard. Dr Sibisi is one such person through whom we do this. Sibusiso provides a unique set of skills which bridges both the natural and commercial sciences. He therefore is the ideal person to take forward our initiative to assist SA’s businesses to transform themselves for the digital era”.
