The Centre for Applied Legal Studies, together with the Alternative Information and Development Centre, Mining Affected Communities United in Action/Women Affected by Mining United in Action and Public Services International are excited to invite you to join a webinar discussion to help us to better understand the UN Binding Treaty on Business and Human Rights process and how this has unfolded. More importantly, we will engage around the importance of such a treaty in the South African – and African – context and its relevance to struggles against land grabs, resource grabs and corporate impunity on the continent.
The conduct of many transnational corporations, particularly during the covid-19 pandemic has once more highlighted the necessity of a legally binding instrument under international law. The Binding Treaty is a critical instrument to curbing corporate power and holding corporations accountable. In light of this, what is South Africa’s current position on the Treaty? This is one of many important questions that will be explored during the webinar.
