CALS condemns Orlando shooting
- Lee-Anne Bruce
CALS remains deeply shocked and saddened by the senseless shooting of members of the LGBTI+ community in Orlando, USA. We mourn the loss of the 49 people who have lost their lives so far since Omar Mateen opened fire at Pulse night club on Sunday 12 June. We also send our deepest condolences to their families and friends, and wish those who have survived the shooting strength during this difficult time.
Members of the LGBTI+ community continue to be marginalised and experience violence and discrimination on a daily basis in countries across the world. Their rights remain unacceptably limited in a vast majority of countries in Africa particularly. We urge everyone from individuals to world leaders and policy makers to treat these incidents with the utmost seriousness and work towards inclusive and just societies.
Our thoughts remain with all those affected by this violence and we stand in solidarity with LGBTI+ communities around the world.
