Esteemed architect Denise Scott Brown (DArch honoris causa 20111) was awarded the Soane Medal.

Judge David Unterhalter (LLB 1984) received the Absa Professional Excellence Award from the South African Jewish Report.

Alan Menter (MBBCh 1966) was selected as Top Dermatologist of the Year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals.

Physiotherapy lecturer Natalie Benjamin-Damons (MSc Physio 2010) received the National Research Foundation’s Next Generation Researcher Award for outstanding academic performance in her final year as a doctoral student. Dr Bernie Fanaroff (BSc 1968, BSc Hons 1970, DSc honoris causa 2013), Special Adviser and Former Director of the Square Kilometre Array South Africa, received the NRF Lifetime Achievement Award.

Skhumbuzo Macozoma (BSc Eng 1997, MSc Eng 2007) told the Sowetan about his challenges as Sanral CEO.

The Wits Food Sovereignty Centre is taking up the challenge to transform the University as a champion in a society of zero waste, zero hunger and zero carbon. The Centre has launched a crowd-funding campaign to raise funds to create a food sovereignty space, where Wits students will have control over their food. This will include communal kitchens, food gardens and a space for people to sit and enjoy their meals. You can support this campaign here.
