Wits a global leader in rankings

Wits has emerged as the leading university in rankings measuring wealth, reputation and leadership. Wits produces most CEOs, millionaires in Africa Wits is one of the best universities in the world to study at if you want to be a global business leader. The inaugural Alma Mater Index, conducted by Times Higher Education, ranks the world’s top tertiary institutions by the number of degrees awarded to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Wits was ranked 24th in the world on the Alma Mater Index: Global Executives 2013 published on 5 September 2013 and is the highest-ranking tertiary institution in Africa in this index. Wits University was also ranked 57th in the world for the number of millionaires it has produced. Spear’s magazine and consultancy WealthInsight published a new league table in October 2013 showing the top 500 universities that have produced millionaires, and the subjects they studied. Employability ranking Wits University holds the 139th position in the Global Employability University Rankings 2013, released on 29 October. Wits is the only university in Africa to be ranked on this list, which surveys universities on their reputation among international recruiters. French HR consultants, Emerging Associates, and German research and polling institute, Trendence, commissioned and conducted the research for this ranking. It is based on responses from 2,700 recruiters in 20 countries, who were asked which of their local universities produce the best graduates. The top five universities in the survey, according to employers’ perception of reputation, were the University of Oxford, followed by Harvard, Cambridge, Stanford, and then the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Wits improves in QS academic ranking Wits University is now ranked 313th in the world in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 2013 Ranking, which compares and ranks the world’s top 800 tertiary institutions. The QS also ranks 30 different subjects. The Faculty of Humanities at Wits is ranked 144th in the world with Geography ranked in the top 100 worldwide. Wits retains 2012 positions in ‘Shanghai’ and THE rankings In the Academic Ranking of World Universities – also known as the Shanghai ranking – Wits retained its 2012 position of 301-400 in 2013. The Graduate School of Education of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, publishes this ranking. It ranks over 1000 higher education institutions based on indicators such as number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes, and highly cited research output. The Times Higher Education (THE) Ranking evaluates universities across their core missions, including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Wits retained its 2012 position of 226-250 in the 2013 Times Higher Education ranking. |
