South Africa's strategic partnership with China aims to secure a political ally and economic development partner. The China-SA relationship positions Hong Kong as a critical gateway to China for SA - a key economic and diplomatic link unlikely to change soon. So says Garth Shelton (BA 1979, BA Hons 1980, MA 1983, PhD 1992), associate professor in the Wits international relations department, who published his investigation into the role of Hong Kong in Occasional Paper, for the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA). |
