Aims of the Research Programme
The research of the Chair generates new knowledge on human resources for health and contributes to the design of more effective health workforce policies and/or interventions.
The envisaged outcomes of the Research Chair are listed below:
- Excellence in health systems research, with a particular focus on HRH or the health workforce
- Generation of new knowledge in each of the research focus areas
- Generation of evidence to assist with improvements in the performance of the South African health system
- Creation of opportunities for strengthening HRH policy development and implementation in South Africa
- Contribution to health sector transformation
- Enhanced public discourse on the health workforce and its importance to universal health coverage
- Investing in talent and building the capacity of the next generation of ethical, multi-disciplinary HRH scholars with commitment to health equity and quality
- Diversifying the demographic profile of health systems researchers
