Dr Melissa Zulu

Melissa Zulu has a PhD in Business Sciences (Marketing), Master of Management in Strategic Marketing, PGDip in Marketing Management, and Bachelor of Arts. She is a lecturer and Masters Coordinator in the Marketing Department in the School of Business Sciences. She defines herself as a pracademic, with vast interest and passion in using theory to solve business and socio-economic problems. Prior to joining academia, she worked in key areas such as marketing, client liaison, account management and project management both in education, innovation and social impact companies. She was also a consultant for small and medium sized businesses and assisted in developing and implementing successful marketing strategies that enabled business executives to make important decisions on brand positioning.

She currently serves on two committees for the school, where she is the Chair of Branding & Marketing Committee and Transformation Committee. Melissa is currently supervising at both Honours and Masters level. Her research interests are Data Science in Marketing, Retail Management, Services Marketing, Entrepreneurial Marketing and Township Economy, which was the core research focus for her PhD.

Professor Tracey White

Tracey White is a work-based learning practitioner. Passionate about enabling and empowering adult learning, she focuses on innovation in learning, teaching and assessment providing high quality educational experiences which are accessible for all. She loves inspiring colleagues and learners in the art of what is possible. Tracey is passionate about enabling and empowering adult learning. She has focused on innovation in learning, teaching and assessment and providing high quality educational experiences which are accessible for all. Throughout her career she has drawn upon her own experiences as an adult learner to help to shape and form her practice. Not limited to the UK, she collaborates with universities in South Africa to offer progression routes on to work based distance learning degrees, bringing about life changing opportunities amongst diverse communities.

Tracey is a work-based learning (WBL) practitioner at heart and has developed her expertise in workforce development and working with organisations to develop, implement and facilitate bespoke programmes of learning. Her expertise is highly regarded in work-based learning alongside her deep understanding of working with corporate organisations, which has led to the development of a range of innovative employer-led programmes.

She works with colleagues to facilitate the use of WBL pedagogies and curriculum frameworks, resulting in innovative programmes across subject disciplines. Branching wider she has developed Degree Apprenticeships, designed and led the Business School flagship MBA Leadership as part of the Senior Leader Master’s Degree Apprenticeship and more recently the development and leadership of eight fully online masters’ programmes.

Tracey has won multiple awards for her work with business, partnerships and the community, a National Teaching Fellowship and as part of a team award for her work in Degree Apprentices. She loves innovating and developing new forms of provision, working closely with academic colleagues and professional services, putting learners at the heart, ensuring that they have the design, infrastructure and support to successfully achieve. Passionately putting back into an education system that provided her with such opportunities drives her unique self-determined approach to make excellent education accessible for all.

Tracey is recipient as Project Lead in 2023 of British Council Gender Equality Partnership Grant (£25,000.00).

Professor Thomas Anning Dorson

Thomas Anning Dorson, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand’s School of Business Sciences, specializing in marketing strategy, innovation management, enterprise development, consumption culture, and the role of digital transformation in shaping business practices. His research delves into how firms can harness innovation and digital technologies to enhance performance, societal impact, and customer well-being in the context of emerging markets, particularly across Africa.

Dr Anning Dorson has published extensively in leading academic journals, contributing significant insights to the fields of marketing, innovation, and enterprise development. His research explores critical intersections between customer value, firm capabilities, and market dynamics, emphasizing the role of digital ecosystems in reshaping consumption patterns and economic participation. His work is recognized for its scholarly rigor and its relevance to both academic and business communities.

In addition to his research, Dr Anning Dorson plays an active role in academic leadership. He is the founding leader of the Lab for African Socioeconomic Research (LASER) and the Township Economy Research Group (TERG) at Wits University, research hubs dedicated to understanding and addressing business and societal challenges across Africa. As a mentor and educator, he has guided numerous early career scholars and PhD and master's students, fostering the next generation of scholars and practitioners. His ongoing work continues to shape the discourse around marketing, enterprise development and socioeconomic developments in emerging economies.

Dr Olanrewaju Olaoye

Larry’s interest in teaching, research and consultancy have developed as a result of 15 years of professional experience within the public sector, private sector and third sector working in different levels of complexity while trouble-shooting and proffering solutions to real-life work problems. Some of the organisations where he has worked include the World Health Organisation as a Core Trainer, Prestige Bank UBA Plc as a Relationship Manager, UNICEF as a Consultant Trainer, Laureate Online Universities as a Subject Matter Expert, the British Council as a Consultant Trainer, and Chevening as an Academic Specialist.

Larry takes pride in infusing real-world experiences with theoretical perspectives into the educational landscape hence, he employs a learner-centred teaching philosophy which aims to co-produce knowledge with students. In the modules he facilitates and lead, his goal for each student is to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts and models underpinning each of the modules, exhibit robust critical thinking skills, develop an ability to present concise, well-supported arguments, and draw upon lessons from case studies analysed during the module while exploring relevant theories.

The module objectives he develops follow a progressive path to learning, which includes knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis and evaluation. His teaching philosophy allows each student to consider and re-examine the key ideas and assumptions that shape the production of knowledge in the field of Strategy Making, Enterprises, Public Policy, Evaluation, and Collaborative Governance.

More importantly, he aims to create an enabling learning environment for students using learning artefacts such as seminars, online group-sets and discussion boards to enable the co-production of knowledge and peer-to-peer learning.

Larry is recipient as Project Lead – 2019 to 2023 British Council Creative Spark Enterprise Project (£60,000.00). Also, recipient in 2022 British Council Interlinks Trans-National Education (TNE) Grant (£13,500.00). And co-recipient with Tracey White in 2023 of British Council Gender Equality Partnership Grant (£25,000.00).

Dr Paul Agu Igwe

Dr Paul Agu Igwe is an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Pioneer Programme Leader BA (Hons) Business with Entrepreneurship, Department of Management. He has worked extensively on several enterprise and research projects.

Currently, he is the chair of the following international projects: Women in Higher Education Leadership (WIHEL) and Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Higher Education (IE4HE). Also, he leads Decolonising Research at University of Lincoln. He is recipient as Project Lead - WIHEL Project funded by British Council - Going Global / Gender Equality Partnership programme (£25,000.00) [2023]. Also, recipient as Project Lead - IE4HE project (£120,000.00), funded by British Council - Innovation for African Universities (IAU) programme, 2021/22. Also, recipient of UK Research & Innovation (UKRI)/QR Strategic Priorities Fund (£16,664.00), 2020/21 - as Project Lead.

His previous research and academic roles include – Postdoctoral Research Fellow at University of Plymouth. As Postdoctoral Research Fellow, he undertook administration and management of some funded research projects such as European Union €1.8 million INTERREG Offshore Renewable Energy/SMEs competitiveness project and £80K DFID/AFCAP African Enterprise, Gender issues in Entrepreneurship and Transport Project.

His previous and current teaching specialism include Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation, Business Strategy, Strategic Management, and International Business studies. Prior to joining University of Lincoln, Paul was a Lecturer in International Business and Enterprise at Faculty of Business & Society, University of South Wales until September 2017. He has more than 10 years commercial and consultancy experience and PhD in Business with Management from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom. Paul's research interest includes entrepreneurial behaviour, ethnic/indigenous entrepreneurship, small enterprises research, social enterprise, women entrepreneurship, business strategy, rural enterprises, climate change adaptation, sustainability approaches, higher education pedagogy and policies, digital platforms innovation, decolonising research approaches, national/regional politics and policies, etc.

Dr Tinashe ChuChu

Dr Tinashe ChuChu (PhD) holds a Doctorate in Marketing from the University of the Witwatersrand. Currently, he works as a Senior Lecturer in the Marketing Division of the School of Business Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is a Y rated scientist of the National Research Entrepreneurial Education Foundation (NRF). Previously, he worked as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Marketing Management, University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is a consumer behaviour and tourism scholar who has published numerous studies in these fields in top journals and has presented at international conferences.

Dr ChuChu has published and reviewed for major publishing outlets, which include Wiley, Taylor and Francis, Elsevier, Emerald Publishing, SAGE, and presented at the premier conference for marketing academics (the American Marketing Association Conference) which was held in Chicago, USA, in 2019. He is a member of The Academy of Business and Retail Management Conferences based in the UK. He was a recipient of the South African government’s National Research Foundation Doctoral Scholarship in 2015. He sits on the editorial board of the Retail and Marketing Review as well as the African Journal of Business and Economic Research.

Relebohiseng Matubatuba

Relebohiseng Matubatuba is a Lecturer at the School of Business Sciences. Before joining academia, she held positions as an Account Executive at IRI South Africa and a Field Sales Representative at SA Breweries.

She has a BCom Hons and MCom in Marketing Management from the University of Johannesburg and a Certificate in Digital Marketing from Stellenbosch University. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Marketing at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she is focusing on Drivers of Blood Donor Loyalty. Relebohiseng’s research interests lie at the intersection of sustainability, societal well-being, social marketing, and digital technologies. Her work is particularly focused on understanding the behaviours of individuals and organisations in these fields, with a special interest in the role of women and youth to promote inclusivity and inclusive digital transformation.

She is pragmatic in her approach and seeks to conduct research that is problem-centred, concerned with real-world practice, and aims to provide practical solutions that inform future practice.

Ms Nomsa Qwelane

Nomsa Qwelane has a Master of Business Administration (MBA), PGDip in Business Administration and Bachelor of Accounting. She holds academic short course certificate in Business Strategy and certificate in Executive Development Program (EDP). She is a Senior Finance Officer in the School of Business Sciences. She defines herself as an analytic, strategic thinker who processes a matter in line with all the assertions that can be considered as factors. Prior to joining an academic institution, she has worked in various sectors such as banking, consultancy, audit and advisory amongst others. She has successfully completed her SAICA articles.

She currently serves in committees of the school and faculty, being Exco of the school, Branding and Marketing for the school and Finance Committee (FINCO) of the faculty.  She is also supporting the centre of the clinic known to be Wits Entrepreneurship Clinic (WEC) as a facilitator and project manager that monitors and oversees all the projects that the clinic is currently running and reporting back to donors regarding reconciliations, quality assurance, amongst others.

Dr Khosi Radebe

Dr Khosi Radebe began her tenure at SBS in 2021 and rapidly gained recognition as an emerging leader in academia. Her career reflects her deep commitment and enthusiasm for both research and teaching, with her studies concentrating on entrepreneurship, business models, innovation, dynamic capabilities, and in strategic management. Within a few years, she has successfully published three papers, contributed to three book chapters, and garnered citations from fellow scholars. Her contributions not only enhance the academic landscape but also serve as a source of inspiration for young woman pursuing academic careers and beyond. Her research interests are concentrated within innovations, strategy, intrapreneurship, business models and dynamic capabilities.
