Q: When do I need to be vaccinated or apply for Reasonable Accommodation?

All persons entering Wits campuses need to have proof of vaccination by 1 March 2022, or staff and students need to apply for Reasonable Accommodation before 1 March 2022.

Q: Where do I upload my vaccination certificate?

Staff and students can upload on the Wits MVax Upload Portal. Follow this step-by-step guide. Students can also upload on the Student Self-Service portal when registering or when providing their Medical aid details on the Medical Aid/COVID Vax tile.

Q: Can I register for University courses and degrees if I am not vaccinated yet?

Yes, you can register following the rules of registration. You will have until 01 March to get vaccinated and upload your vaccination certificate with QR Code to the MVAX Upload and RA Portal, or if a new or returning student, on the Wits Student Self-Service. Or you will need to apply for Reasonable Accommodation and be granted a decision before 01 March. For a student, visit Wits Student Self-Service, simply tick Not Vaccinated to continue with online registration.

Q: Where can I vaccinate on campus?

The Wits Vaccination and Testing Site is at the Campus Health and Wellness Centre.

Q: Can I upload the vaccination card I received from the vaccination site?

No. You need to download your South African Vaccination Certificate with QR code Version 2 from the Government website https://vaccine.certificate.health.gov.za/. Enter all the required details. The Proof of Vaccination Code is on your vaccination card, also in the SMS you received after vaccination. This is a long series of Capital Letters and numbers (not the EVDS number).

Q: Can First Year students attend the Gateway to Success with one dose?

Yes, you can attend the Gateway to Success programme as you have been vaccinated. Even with one shot you can download your South African Vaccination Certificate with QR Code from the Government website https://vaccine.certificate.health.gov.za/ and upload to the Wits Student Self-Service website. Please ensure that you receive your second shot, download your new vaccination certificate and upload to the Wits portal.

Q: Can I apply for and live in a Wits Residence if I am not vaccinated?

All students who apply to live in Wits residences will need to be vaccinated due to the close living configuration, level of occupancy and associated risks in residences. Only students with proof of vaccination will be able to apply for and live in Wits residences as per the MVax Policy.

Q: I have an International Vaccination Certificate. What steps do I follow?

Upload your International Vaccination Certificate or vaccination card along with a copy of the ID used to get the vaccine (your passport or proof of ID) to the Wits MVAX Upload and RA Portal. Use the Upload International Vaccination Certificate/Documents link.

Q: I was part of an early Vaccination Trial and do not have an EVDS number or Voucher Code, therefore I can’t download a Vaccination Certificate with QR code. What steps do I follow?

Upload your Vaccination Trial/Study Vaccination Card and related documentation along with a copy of the ID used to get the vaccine (your passport or proof of ID) to the Wits MVAX Upload and RA Portal. Use the Upload International Vaccination Certificate/Documents link.

Q: I uploaded my 网易体育 vaccine certificate but I haven't received any verification of the certificate?

You can view the status of your submission on the Wits MVAX Upload and RA Portal. Log in with your Student/staff number and Wits password. Go to the Submissions menu and “My Submissions”. Click on the relevant submission to see the status. You can view and print the submission by clicking on “Download Submission”.

Q: Do visitors need to be vaccinated?

Yes. As of 1 March 2022, all visitors entering campus via the pedestrian gates or in vehicles will be required to present their ID and Vaccination Certificate with QR Code Version 2 confirming vaccination status. Visit https://vaccine.certificate.health.gov.za/ to download your South African Vaccination Certificate.

Q: I changed my surname and my details do not match. Is this a problem?

Yes. The first name and surname on the vaccination certificate need to match your first name and surname on the Wits Student Self-Service profile or HR profile on the Wits Intranet. If a student, contact Student Enrolment Centre, or if staff contact your HR representative to make any necessary changes.

Q: The ID number on the vaccination certificate does not match the ID number on my Wits Student Self-Service profile or HR profile. Is this a problem?

Yes. The ID number on the vaccination certificate needs to match your ID number on the Wits Student Self-Service profile or HR profile on the Intranet. If a student, contact Student Enrolment Centre, or if staff contact your HR representative to make any necessary changes.

Q: I used my passport to get my shot and the ID number on the vaccination certificate is my passport, but the ID number on my Wits Student Self-Service profile or HR profile is my ID. Is this a problem?

Yes. The IDs must be the same. If a student, contact Student Enrolment Centre, or if staff contact your HR representative to make any necessary changes.

Q: I accidentally uploaded Version 1 of the vaccination certificate. How do I start afresh?

Download Version 2 of your vaccination certificate on the Government’s website then upload V2 to the Wits MVAX Upload and RA Portal.

Q: I uploaded my vaccine certificate at the Wits MVax Upload and RA Portal and it’s still not validated.

The vaccination certificate will not be validated if it is Version 1, or if the names do not match or the ID numbers do not match on the certificate and your Wits profile, or if the IDs are different on the certificate and your Wits profile. See Question/Answers above or visit the MVax Helpdesk.

Q: Can I receive manual help if I am still struggling to upload my vaccination certificate online?

Yes, visit the MVax Helpdesk at the Wits Vaccination and Testing Site at the Campus Health and Wellness Centre between 08:00-15:00 on Monday-Friday. For Wits ICT password problems contact Ithelp@wits.ac.za or call (011) 717-1717.

Q: Can I get my vaccination certificate and QR code with only one vaccine shot?

Yes, even with one shot of Pfizer or Johnson and Johnson you can download your South African Vaccination Certificate with QR Code from the Government website at https://vaccine.certificate.health.gov.za/.  Thereafter, upload the certificate on the Wits MVax Upload and RA Portal. You will need to upload the certificate for your Pfizer second shot within 90 days to continue to have access to campus. Persons will also need to get a booster shot as recommended by National Department of Health.

Q: Where do I apply for Reasonable Accommodation?

Staff and students can apply on the Wits MVax Upload and RA Portal. Follow this step-by-step guide.

Q: If I am granted Reasonable Accommodation, will my Wits staff/student card be automatically activated to enter campus?

You will be required to take and upload a weekly antigen test result from an accredited service provider to the Wits MVax Upload and RA Portal. After verification of the negative antigen test result, your access card will be activated for seven days only. Thereafter, you need to repeat the steps each week, uploading a negative antigen test to be provided with seven days of access to campus. The Wits Vaccination and Testing site offers antigen testing starting 14 Feb at cost.

Q: My application for Reasonable Accommodation was rejected. What do I do next?

You may choose to accept the decision and get vaccinated, you may choose to place your studies on hold. Staff can discuss with HR, or may choose to appeal the decision on the Wits MVax Upload and RA Portal.

Q: Is the vaccination site wheelchair accessible?

No. Persons with restricted mobility can make a vaccination appointment with Sister Anna Moloi at Anna.Moloi@wits.ac.za to be vaccinated at the Campus Health and Wellness Centre which is wheelchair accessible.

Q: Do I still need to follow the COVID-19 Campus Protocols even if I am vaccinated?

Yes. All persons entering the Wits campus are expected to follow the COVID-19 Protocols of 1M + 2V + 3Ss: Wear a face Mask, stay in Ventilated areas, Vaccinate, complete the COVID-19 Screening Tool, keep a Social Distance of 1.5m and Sanitise hands regularly.

Q: I have flu. Can I vaccinate?

If you have only mild flu-like symptoms you can be vaccinated. If you are moderately ill, you can delay the COVID-19 vaccination until you feel better. However, you must upload your vaccination certificate to the MVAX Upload and RA Portal before 01 March.

Q: Where can I find all the information about the MVax Policy and uploading my certificate?

You can read the MVax Policy and obtain detailed information about its implementation on the Wits Vaccine Implementation Portal and access other resources on the Wits COVID-19 Portal.
