Genomic Medicine

The Master of Science in Medicine in the field of Genomic Medicine is a one year, full time degree.

Overview


This 1-year full-time MSc by coursework and research report in Genomic Medicine is offered through the Division of Human Genetics.
The course will provide foundational knowledge and skills development necessary for genomic data interpretation in the context of human genetic disease. The course offers a unique emphasis on the role of genomic medicine in Africa.

Curriculum


The MSc includes coursework covered through four theory modules: 

  • Research Methodology
  • Fundamentals of human genetics & genomics
  • Omics techniques and application in genomic medicine
  • Genomics in Medicine

In addition, students will gain research experience by tackling a research question relevant to Genomic Medicine and writing up a research report, which constitutes 30% of their final mark. 

Entry Requirements


A final year grade average of 65% in an appropriate science degree.  Please note that the Entry Requirements are a guide. Meeting these requirements does not guarantee a place. Final selection is made subject to the availability of places, academic results and other pre-admission  requirements where applicable.

  • Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC).   • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
