Curriculum


The LLM by Coursework & Research Report consists of a coursework component as well as a research component. To obtain the LLM, a student needs to take four LLM modules (two of which must be taken at core level), complete one attendance course in Research Methodology and produce one Research Report.

Entry Requirements


A LLB degree with an overall average of 70%

Additional Requirements
  • All degree certificates
  • FULL academic transcript(s) for all post-matric studies (including marking key if marks are not expressed as percentages)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • If you are applying for the LLM by Coursework and Research Report and have an average mark of between 65% and 70% for your LLB or BProc degree, you are strongly advised to provide evidence of your ability to perform legal research and produce writing of a high standard. Such evidence could, for instance, consist of a legal publication or a law essay written by you that received a high mark.

  • Applications are handled centrally by the Student Enrolment Centre (SEnC). Once your application is complete in terms of requested documentation, your application will be referred to the relevant School for assessment. Click here to see an overview of the Wits applications process.   • Please apply online. Upload your supporting documents at the time of application, or via the Self Service Portal.
  • Applicants can monitor the progress of their applications via the Self Service Portal.
  • Selections for programmes that have a limited intake but attract a large number of applications may only finalise the application at the end of the application cycle.
