Radiation Protection
Because of the potential hazard of Radiation, the use thereof needs to be regulated by a specialist knowledgeable in the physics of radiation. Medical Physicists generally assume the role of Radiation Protection Officers for the Hospital.
It is the Medical Physicists' responsibility to ensure radiation safety of patients, their visitors and Hospital personnel. Some of these responsibilities include the design of the buildings and access to X-ray equipment, individual dose calculations, general radiation protection of workers and radiation survey measurements.
