Campus Spatial and Infrastructural Design and Management Research Laboratory at the University of the Witwatersrand
Introduction and Background
The Campus Innovation Laboratory (CIL) is a Centre of Excellence that focuses its research on the spatial design and development frameworks of university campuses in the African continent. Founded in 2019, and based at the School of Architecture and Planning (SoAP) at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS), CIL consults and supports the design, development, and management of university, educational, and public infrastructure. It has five main missions: Heritage, Urban and Landscape Design, and Sustainability Goals, Interdisciplinary Teaching and Research Collaborations, National and International Consultation Services, Martin and Lucy WITS Centenary Scholarships, and Open Access Archives on South African Campus Design.
