Off-Campus Private Accommodation

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS IN PRIVATE STUDENT ACCOMMODATION 

  • Students are advised to reside in accommodation that is accredited by the University;
  • Students should thoroughly read/study the lease agreement before signing;
  • If you do not understand the contents of the lease agreement, please visit the private student accommodation office for assistance before signing;
  • A lease agreement is a legally binding document and both parties to the agreement have to perform their duties. Make sure you understand the contents before you sign;
  • Once you sign a lease agreement, you will be obliged to serve a 30 days’ notice in order to terminate it;
  • Please do not sign lease agreements with more than 1 accommodation provider, such may result in you owing rentals to more than 1 accommodation provider;
  • You must not allow yourself to be bullied into paying admin fees, rental deposits, and cash top-ups on monthly rentals if you are NSFAS-funded in particular.
  • There are many accommodation providers that are accredited and charge accommodation rentals at NSFAS rate with no additional charges;
  • You must not sign a lease agreement that is outside your date of occupation or outside the University academic calendar;
  • Students must not pay for water, electricity, Wi-Fi, and transport. Those costs are included in the rental amount charged.
