How to apply for accommodation in a WITS residence


If you wish to apply for residence, please take note of the following:

New Undergraduate students to the University 

  • NB: The closing date for all applications is 30 September each year. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Before you are admitted to a residence, you will be required to pay R5000 of your residence fees for the year.
  • International students are required to pay 75% of their residence fees.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into a residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.

Students who are presently at Wits, but not residing in residence

  • Applications are made online through self-service. For further inquiries please contact the Central Accommodation Office – located on the Ground Floor, Room SH045, Solomon Mahlangu House.
  • The closing date for undergraduates is 30 September.
  • Upon receiving an offer of a place in residence, you will have three (3) days in which to accept the offer. After the stipulated time, the offer will be withdrawn.

Students currently residing in a residence

  • Readmission to University accommodation for a subsequent year is not automatic.
  • A student's academic and disciplinary records are taken into account when readmission applications are considered.
  • Applications for readmission are done online and must be completed by 30 September.
  • Should you wish to apply for a residence different from the one you are currently occupying, please do so on self-service.

Postgraduate Students (New to Wits)

  • Residence applications are done online.
  • Before you are admitted to a residence, you will be required to pay R10000 of your residence fees for the year.
  • International students are required to pay 75% of their residence fees.
  • NSFAS students must have a provisional or firm acceptance before being admitted into a residence.
  • Bursary students must provide proof of their bursary upon registration.
  • The closing date for accommodation applications is 30 October.
